BRAD PITT ROCKETS INTO SPACE: 20thCentury Fox has released a new trailer for sci-fi mystery drama Ad Astra ahead of its September 20th premiere. The second trailer opens with Roy (Brad Pitt), who has set off on a mission to find his father. “Dad, I’d like to see you again,” he says into a microphone. Tommy Lee Jones, Ruth Negga, Jamie Kennedy and Donald Sutherland co-star.
JAVIER BARDEM IN TALKS FOR LITTLE MERMAID: Javier Bardem is in talks to play King Triton in the Disney live-action remake of The Little Mermaid. He would join Halle Bailey as Ariel and Harry Styles as Prince Eric. Melissa McCarthy, Awkwafina and Jacob Tremblay round out the cast.
JON S. BAIRD TO HELM KINGSMAN? Stan & Ollie director Jon S. Baird has been hired to co-write and direct an untitled Marv Films movie, sparking rumors that he is in line to helm Kingsman 3. Kingsman: The Golden Circle, starring Taron Egerton and Colin Firth, snagged $400 million worldwide in 2017.
PBS FALL SLATE REVEALED: PBS has unveiled its fall programming slate, which includes premiere dates for Ken Burns’ 16-hour Country Music along with several other documentaries and the new contemporary-history series Retro Report on PBS. Also on tap are new editions of Frontline, POV, Great Performances, American Masters and Independent Lens; the four-part documentary series College Behind Bars; and the fifth and final season of British drama Poldark. “PBS is the most prolific platform for documentaries, with more than 200 hours per year,” said Perry Simon, the pubcaster’s Chief Programming Executive and General Manager of General Audience Programming. “This fall, we are showcasing first-rate programs featuring award-winning directors, diverse storytellers, hard-hitting investigations and untold stories, solidifying our status as America’s premier destination for documentary film.
