Lee Daniels broke his silence on Jussie Smollett’s alleged attack via Instagram shortly after the news broke. He has since spoken out about the situation following the numerous developments. During a recent radio interview, Lee explained, “My initial thoughts, I went to Instagram. It was uhh, probably the most devastating. Regardless, I’m not a judge. There’s only two judges, God and that man with the gavel. Those are the only two judges. I cannot judge. I can only have compassion. And, uh, so, my thoughts are inconsequential.”

He continued on how the situation has affected his hit show, Empire, saying, “We’re in talks now to figure out what we’re gonna do with the show. I seen this ‘SNL’ piece about me because it was real. It’s traumatic, it has traumatized the show, it has traumatized the actors. It is very painful to talk about…even now. And I think that we’re still living it and we’re still trying to figure it out. And regardless, you know what? I’m still standing by him… because regardless of the outcome because I can’t just discard someone. That’s like discarding my son.”
