MTV TO CHRONICLE DISABILITY ACTIVIST’S SPACE TRAVEL QUEST: Eddie Ndopu wants to become the first physically disabled person to travel to space, and MTV has signed on to document the South African activist’s journey. The 27-year-old was born with spinal muscular atrophy and was given a life span of five years. Instead, he has excelled and thrived, earning a masters in public policy for Oxford and working on behalf of the disabled. Production is set to begin next year.
GLORIA KATZ DIES: Gloria Katz, the Oscar-nominated writer who partnered with her husband William Huyck on scripts for George Lucas classics, including American Graffitti and Star Wars, has died at age 76. She died on her 49thwedding anniversary after a battle with ovarian cancer. The pair wrote Stanley Donan's Lucky Lady (1975) as well as those for Messiah of Evil (1973), French Postcards (1979), Best Defense (1984), Howard the Duck (1986) — all directed by Huyck — and Radioland Murders (1994). She is survived by her husband and their daughter Rebecca.
IDRIS ELBA’S DETECTIVE IS BACK IN LUTHER TRAILER: Idris Elba is returning to the BBC crime drama Luther in 2019. The first trailer for Season 5 dropped, and Luther (Elba) is once again immersed in depravity, murder and corruption. HUGH JACKMAN TO REVIVE ONE-MAN SHOW: Hugh Jackman is getting ready to kick off a multi-city tour, Variety reports. He will rev fans up for his rebooted one-man show by performing songs on the plaza as part of NBC’s The Today Show holiday concert series. So what’s on tap? The Tony Award winner will likely perform songs from musicals he’s been associated with such as “Les Miserables,” “The Boy from Oz,” and “Oklahoma.” He will also add two or three numbers from “The Greatest Showman,” according to Variety.
JANE FONDA DEVELOPING LIFESTYLE BRAND: The Oscar-winning Jane Fonda is getting back to her exercise and fitness roots. She is collaborating with Evine, a multiplatform retailer, on a lifestyle brand that will target women over 50. “I am excited about partnering with Evine because their strong marketing platform will allow me to bring my fitness knowledge and creative ideas to a market that is lacking strong offerings for women over 50,” Fonda, who is 80, said in a statement: “We are, after all, the fastest demographic in the world.” Fonda can next be seen on the fifth season of Grace and Frankie, which premieres in January of 2019 on Netflix.
