The guitar that Grateful Dead’s Jerry Garcia played in their famous 1978 New Year’s Eve show in San Francisco’s Winterland Arena, is going onstage again. The guitar’s owner, Deadhead Brian Halligan, is now lending it to area musicians in Boston.
The guitar was featured heavily in the 1977 The Grateful Dead Movie and was played at some of the band’s most notable and memorable concerts in the '70s.
It was Garcia’s first-ever custom guitar and he named it Wolf. It’s one of more than two dozen guitars that he played throughout his career and left behind when he passed away.
In other Grateful Dead news: The band is about to release its first official career-spanning documentary.
