Asia Argento is waging war against her former BFF Rose McGowan. The pair became fast friends after they emerged as leaders of the #MeToo movement following their allegations of sexual misconduct against Harvey Weinstein.
But their globe-trotting friendship ground to a dramatic halt over the summer when allegations of Argento sexually abusing then-17-year-old Jimmy Bennett emerged. Argento has maintained her innocence, though she did admit to paying him off.
In August, McGowan and her gender nonconforming partner Rain Dove denounced Argento and claimed that Argento previously admitted to having sex with Bennett in text messages sent to them. (Argento denied ever sleeping with Bennett in the aftermath of the accusations).
On Monday, Argento took to Twitter to threaten legal action against McGowan, claiming her lengthy statement on Twitter last month was filled with “horrendous lies.”
Argento’s tweet reads: “Dear @RoseMcGowan. It is with genuine regret that I am giving you 24 hours to retract and apologise for the horrendous lies made against me in your statement of August 27th. If you fail to address this libel I will have no option other than to take immediate legal action.”
